Good morning, Canada! From Vancouver to St. John’s, last week gave every hockey-loving, football-watching Canadian plenty of reasons to stay up late or wake up early. Connor McDavid reminded the world why he’s ours, the NFL delivered playoff-shaping drama, and college football dropped the biggest Cinderella story in decades. Here’s your coast-to-coast recap — eh to zed.
Connor McDavid Hat-Trick Lights Up Rogers Place
The Captain did it again. In front of a roaring Edmonton crowd, Connor McDavid scored a filthy natural hat-trick in a 5–2 win over the Seattle Kraken, tying Wayne Gretzky’s Oilers franchise record for most multi-goal games. Goal #3? A ridiculous toe-drag through three Kraken defenders finished five-hole — pure McJesus. The Oilers are now 7–3–1 in their last 11 and sit just 4 points out of a wild-card spot with games in hand. Canadian hockey is back, baby.
Other Canadian NHL notes:
- Winnipeg Jets (19-7-2) still own 2nd in the entire league
- Toronto Maple Leafs beat Vegas 4–3 in OT behind another Auston Matthews snipe
- Montreal Canadiens snapped a 4-game skid with a 3–1 win over Calgary
- Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators both picked up huge road wins
NFL Week 14: Late-Night Drama for Canadian Fans
Perfect timing for the 1:00 PM ET and primetime windows — here were the games that had Canada buzzing:
- Houston Texans 27, Kansas City Chiefs 24 (SNF) C.J. Stroud outplayed Patrick Mahomes in a playoff-atmosphere classic. Canadian defensive tackle Neville Gallimore (Texans) had a key third-down stuff.
- Buffalo Bills 39, Cincinnati Bengals 34 Josh Allen went full superhero mode with 4 total TDs. Bills Mafia in Niagara and southern Ontario is already planning playoff parties.
- Green Bay Packers 28, Chicago Bears 21 Canadian WR Chase Claypool (Bears) had 4 catches for 52 yards in the loss.
With four weeks left, six of the seven AFC wild-card contenders are within one game of each other — buckle up.
College Football Playoff Shock: Indiana Hoosiers No. 1 Seed!
